Ronald McDonald Charities, primary benefactor of the Kiwanis Basketball Jamboree for many years, matches the Jamboree’s proceeds on a one for one basis to effectively double the amount contributed. Each year, a major project is selected through a rigorous application and review process conducted jointly by Ronald McDonald Charities and Kiwanis.
Some of the major uses of the funds raised by the Jamboree in recent years have enabled us to
Funded a portable pediatric sedation unit for Blank Children's Hospital (2009);
Support the capital campaign ($1.4 million) for the new Kiwanis Miracle League at Principal Park. Visit www.kiwanismiracleleague.org for more information about this exciting project. (2008);
Support capital campaign for the new Kiwanis Miracle League at Principal Park (2007);
Rehabilitate the Outdoor Arena at Wildwood Hills Ranch (2006);
Build an infant & toddler playground at the House of Mercy (2005);
Provide much needed equipment for a diagnostic room at the Regional Child Protection Clinic at Blank Hospital (2004);
Provide support for the child life program at Mercy Hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit, purchasing updated video/play station equipment (2003). and
Purchase a “Smiles on Wheels” mobile dental clinic (2002).
In addition each year, approximately 40 deserving youngsters in the central Iowa area get to go to camp through donations from our Basketball Jamboree (our "Kiwanis Kampers"). These camping venues include Wildwood Hills Ranch, Camp Hertko, Camp OK, Easter Seals/Camp Sunnyside, Amanda the Panda, Heart Connection, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire USA, and many others.
